Campus Life

Live music, a game day patio party, and football are among the dozens of events planned for alumni and the rest of the Richmond community.

Homecoming weekend at the University of Richmond will take place Oct. 17-19, offering alumni and guests a full slate of events and activities across campus.

The weekend will kick off with the Spider Day Lunch at D-Hall & Spider Day Party on Friday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the award-winning Heilman Dining Center.

A new event this year is the Sustainable Spiders Homecoming Hangout, held on Friday from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Eco-Corridor. Here’s an opportunity to see what all the buzz is about (including honeybees) at Richmond’s one-mile natural trail and new Orchard and Food Forest. Join other Spiders for mingling, snacks, music, games, and tours.

“We are so excited for our annual Homecoming celebration, Party Under the Lights,” said Megan Dooley Phillips, senior associate director of campus events for the Alumni Engagement Office and 2013 UR graduate. “It will be an evening full of fun, music, and Spider spirit. There will be live music from Stonebrook that will keep everyone dancing.” The event will take place Friday night from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Jepson Alumni Center.

Spiders will be honored on Friday at an Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, from 6:15-9:15 p.m. at the Queally Center for Admission & Career Services. The 2025 Hall of Fame class includes Lesia Bilak-Schinnerer, '98 (women's tennis), Brent Holsten, '94 (men's swimming), Bridget Merrick, '98 (women's tennis), Lawson "Buzz" Montsinger, R'70 (football), the late Mark Wesselink (women's tennis coach), and the 2004-05 women's basketball team as the Team of Distinction. The inductees will also be introduced at the football game the next day.

On Saturday, 2 p.m. at Robins Stadium, rally behind the football team as the Spiders face off with Holy Cross as new members of the Patriot League.

“This year offers the chance to be a part of a new tradition,” said Jason Vida, associate athletics director for strategic communications. “The matchup with Holy Cross will go a long way to determining the final league standings, and hopefully, with a crowd of loud, proud Spiders in the stands, Richmond can come out on top.”

Alumni Engagement, in partnership with Spider Athletics, is launching the new Homecoming Gameday Patio Party.

“This is your chance to cheer on UR football in a tented patio atmosphere alongside fellow alumni and fans,” Phillips said.

Young grads from the classes of 2016-2025 are invited to a Young Grad Post-Game Party at The Hofheimer Building in Scott’s Addition, from 8-10 p.m. on Saturday. Then, on Sunday, they are invited to the Young Grad Homecoming Brunch, held from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Heilman Dining Center’s Richmond Room.

“Homecoming has always been a big weekend for our Spider football fans and new grads. We encourage new grads to take advantage of the exciting Young Grad programming while they’re in RVA for the weekend,” Phillips said.
