STUDENT EXPERIENCE
Six members of the Class of 2025 reflect on their UR experiences.
Gregory Hilldrup – Robins School of Business

Hometown: Spotsylvania, Virginia
Degree: Bachelor of Science, Business Administration with a major in Accounting and a Pre-Med focus
After-graduation plans: Take a gap year and scribe at a hospital before applying to medical school
How did you pick your major?
I knew I wanted to go into medicine and run a practice down the road, so I initially thought I would be a science major and tack on a business minor. However, after taking a few classes in the Robins School and integrating myself into its community, especially the Endeavor program, I found a home and decided to declare my major there.
How did you make and meet friends?
A few of us had a study group for our ACCT 302 class with Professor Hoyle. We would show up about 30 minutes or so before our 9 a.m. class and talk through our perspectives and approaches to the wacky and complex problems that Professor Hoyle would give us for class. The individuals in that group are still some of my best friends, even a couple of years later.
What was your favorite class?
Fundamentals of Financial Accounting (ACCT 201) was probably my favorite class — so much so that it led to me switching my major to accounting because I loved the logic and usefulness of the skills we were learning. I talked with my professor (Dr. Bagranoff) and the pre-health advisor, and we worked out a plan to finish my prerequisites for medical school while also adding on the accounting major.
Did you study abroad?
I had the amazing opportunity to go abroad last spring break to Cape Town, South Africa, as part of a special topics accounting class focused on sustainability. With my course load, I couldn't really take a full semester abroad, but this was such an amazing substitute and allowed me to explore a different culture and country that I likely would not have had the opportunity to do on my own.
We visited Faeeza’s Home Kitchen in Bo-Kaap. Faeeza is famous for her cooking and classes and has hosted prominent guests such as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as well as Roger Federer. It was a great group experience where we all got to let loose and cook together. We helped make dishes like samosas and chili bites, which was such a fun and memorable way to experience the culture.
