A significant renovation and expansion project is underway at University of Richmond’s Boatwright Memorial Library, a central learning hub and a community gathering space on campus. The transformational project will enhance and reimagine the resources and services available within the library.

“The library is a hub of learning, a gathering space for the exchange of ideas, and a repository of knowledge,”  said Joan Saab, executive vice president and provost. “This renovation and expansion project will further amplify these qualities.”

Key components unfolding include:

  • Creating new and inviting study spaces, including an enclosed atrium and increased natural light.
  • Making the building more accessible from the lake level.
  • Providing better access to key spaces within the library, including the Book Arts Studio, the Rare Books & Archival Collections, and the Lora Robins Gallery.
  • Planning space within the library to prepare for the future home of the new Carole and Marcus Weinstein Learning Center.
  • Relocating and expanding the existing café, creating an enjoyable space for campus community members to gather and exchange ideas.

The library has undergone several improvements over the past few years. The current renovation began in May 2023 and is scheduled to be completed in spring 2025.
