Alumni and generous benefactors Carole and Marcus Weinstein have long been impressed with the ways the Chaplaincy supports all students in their faith and spirituality. It’s one of the reasons they decided to donate $3 million to the University of Richmond Chaplaincy to support Jewish life.

“We have participated in several Jewish life events on campus and are excited to contribute to the ongoing efforts to cement a vibrant and inclusive Jewish life at the University,” Carole Weinstein said.

“Jewish tradition teaches us that giving to others is critically important,” Marcus Weinstein said. “By sharing what we have with other people, we hope to make the University of Richmond and the wider world a better place.”

Jewish Chaplain and Director of Religious Life Josh Jeffreys said the Weinsteins support will strengthen the Chaplaincy’s goals of enhancing Jewish community and supporting offerings from Hillel, a student religious group.

“The Chaplaincy encourages students to follow their own faithful paths while appreciating the sacred journeys of others,” said University Chaplain Craig Kocher. “This latest gift from Marcus and Carole helps ensure our students have that capacity and opportunity.”

Among numerous contributions to campus, the Weinsteins most recently donated $25 million to the University of Richmond to support a center focused on student learning. The Weinstein family’s gifts have also supported scholarships, faculty chairs, international education, well-being, and the Chaplaincy pilgrimage programs.

“Marcus and Carole are towering figures in the history of our university, and extraordinary philanthropists in so many areas of our campus,” said President Kevin F. Hallock. “They are also simply kind and wonderful human beings.”
