Student Experience

Five spider student-athletes used their fall break last year to tour key civil rights sites throughout Georgia and Alabama. The trip, part of the Athletics Department’s Civic Engagement and Co-Curricular Programming, began in Atlanta and included stops in Tuskegee, Montgomery, Selma, and Birmingham, Alabama.

The student-athletes participated in educational tours, met with speakers, and blogged and captured video of the experience. Read more about their travels to historic civil rights sites:

Walking along the Civil Rights Trail, allows us to step into the shoes of the leaders of that era and we are so appreciative for this opportunity to learn, reflect, and process.

Student-athletes Logan Anderson (soccer), Maddy Sesay (lacrosse), Quentin Southall (basketball), and Jason Nelson (basketball) were joined by Courtney Hughes, assistant athletic director for co-curricular initiatives, and Bruce Matthews, associate athletic director for academic services, on the journey.
