UNIVERSITY NEWS
Accolades from friends and visitors alike affirm that the University of Richmond is a beautiful campus filled with hidden gems. And when the University photographer captures those scenes, as well as images of some hidden-away views of campus that are rarely seen, the question becomes how and where do you provide a canvas? Those images now have a new home and a new name at UR Now: Gallery.
This new feature dedicated to spectacular imagery is a curated collection of gallery-quality photography taken on UR’s campus: landscapes, campus icons, people, architecture, athletics, behind-the-scenes locations, and more.
“Sometimes you capture an image that so powerfully reflects, in a single moment, an aspect of the beauty or character of the University that it can stand on its own,” says University photographer Jamie Betts. “We’re excited to have created a showcase for that kind of imagery, and believe that it will become a popular feature in UR Now.”
In addition to Gallery, Betts’ photography is featured regularly elsewhere in UR Now, the alumni magazine, and a host of other Richmond communications, as well as daily on the UR social media channels.
“Two of my favorite images on the new Gallery site are “Red Light at Night” and the “Rise” series,” Betts said recently. “When capturing images of people or scenes on campus I always try to include a sense of place, so the viewer feels like they’re here, and can relate. When I have my camera in my hand, I’m always hoping to be at the right place at the right time.”
Please enjoy the new Gallery site, and let us know what you think.
