As University of Richmond graduates tossed their caps this weekend, they were ready to expand the Spider web across the world.

The University awarded 763 undergraduate bachelor’s degrees from the School of Arts & Sciences, Robins School of Business, and Jepson School of Leadership Studies, 28 bachelor’s degrees and 88 master’s degrees through the School of Professional & Continuing Studies, and 124 juris doctor degrees from the Richmond School of Law.

The graduates are heading all over the world, with job placements from Nashville to Brussels and Seattle to Madrid. The class of 2022 has secured jobs and fellowships at highly coveted companies and organizations, including Google, Teach for America, and the National Institutes of Health. Students are continuing their education at some of the world’s premier graduate institutions, including Yale, Harvard, and Oxford.

More than 100 members of the class of 2022 conducted undergraduate research in the arts, social sciences, humanities, and sciences during this academic year. More than 20% of law graduates completed 120 hours of pro bono service each in their three years at Richmond. And 21 graduating Bonner Scholars completed community service with more than 85 different organizations in Richmond.

Kelly Corrigan, a 1989 graduate and this year’s commencement speaker, commended the graduates for their commitment to making a difference in the world.

"Optimists create the future because they see problems as temporary and specific, not pervasive, not permanent,” Corrigan said. “You, class of 2022, are the reason for optimism today."
