We’re so proud of our hardworking alums, and this week certainly is no different. We’ve talked about Liz Montague, ’18, before, but now Today and ABC News are the ones singing her praises.

Montague is The New Yorker’s first known African American female cartoonist — first gaining the publication’s attention after she reached out about the lack of diversity among their artists. In a field where rejection is the norm, she is revered for her thought-provoking work that tackles current events and addresses her passions — like climate change and representation. You may have even seen her work in our latest issue of the University of Richmond Magazine, where she illustrated her answers to interview questions.     

“Liz had this striking ambition in her, this wonderful determination to outdo herself each time she would start a new project,” said art professor Tanja Softić, who was Montague’s first-year adviser.
