See a dance film

A 2020 film “about memory and history and telling untold histories and stories” that was created and directed by two UR faculty members continued to pick up awards and film festival invitations in 2021.

The 17-minute film, Entre Puerto Rico y Richmond: Women in Resistance Shall Not Be Moved, was directed by dance professor Alicia Díaz and co-created with theater professor Patricia Herrera and other collaborators.

Filmed in a former American Tobacco Company warehouse in Richmond, the film honors Black female tobacco stemmers who worked in segregated facilities in Richmond, Puerto Rican tobacco factory workers, and anticolonial activists Dominga de La Cruz Becerril and Luisa Capetillo.
