WebstUR is now a collectible

The first Richmond Spiders Mascot Bobblehead went public in September.
“The bobblehead features one of the most unique mascots in all of sports, Richmond’s mascot, WebstUR,” said Phil Sklar, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s co-founder and CEO.
The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of the University of Richmond, is producing the individually numbered 2,024 bobbleheads.
Standing on a base that reads “Spiders” across the front with a backing featuring the Richmond logo, the eight-inch WebstUR bobblehead points a spider finger forward and wears a No. 1 Richmond jersey. The University of Richmond is the only school in the country that sports the Spiders nickname.
“The Spider community gets really excited when they see WebstUR at different events and on campus, and I think they’ll be happy to have a chance to bring him into their homes,” said Melissa Hassen, UR’s assistant athletics director for Game Day Experience and Marketing Services. “He’s a Spider, and he’s the only one in college athletics!”
Bobbleheads date back to the 1700s, and they gained popularity in the United States in the 1960s with the creation of sports bobbleheads. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum opened in 2019.
“It’s a different look and concept for a mascot, and people seem to gravitate towards that,” Hassen said. “The bobblehead is a way to bring WebstUR to life and make him even more accessible to Spider fans everywhere.”
WebstUR bobbleheads can be ordered from the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s online store. They cost $35 and are expected to ship in December.
