While all graduates experience a few milestones, including tossing caps into the air, the University of Richmond has created several distinctive traditions. Some have been around for decades, while others are part of a recent effort to create new customs and foster connections.
“Ritual is important,” says Joe Boehman, dean of Richmond College. “Students need things that they can hold as touchstones throughout the years and remember when they come back 30 or 40 years from now.”
