To speed the ordering process and maintain social distancing when dining on campus, students have new options including kiosk ordering and Grubhub. Additionally, a reservation system is launching soon to accommodate busy dining times at the Heilman Dining Center.

Plans for kiosks at locations such as Tyler’s Grill and the Cellar were planned before the need for social distancing. UR’s Grubhub site allows Spider community members to order from Tyler’s, 8:15, Passport, or Lou’s, and pay with dining dollars or a credit card so they don’t have to wait in line.

“Students have been excited to download and use it,” said Terry Baker, executive director of dining services. “You can order something when you’re in class, and it’ll be ready for you to pick up after you’re done.”

Residential dining is operating out of both the Heilman Dining Center and the Alice Haynes Room in Tyler Haynes Commons. Take-out is now an option, and a reservation system similar to OpenTable is coming soon that will allow students to select a time and reserve a seat.

“We’re trying to do as much as we can for the students to make it a better experience during COVID because everything has changed so much,” Baker said. “People want the same thing, but unfortunately, that can’t happen. We’re responding to the times.”

The campus community can stay up to date on changes and additions on the dining website.
